Consequently, open communication with potential executors is key. Discuss your expectations and wishes in detail, addressing any concerns they might have. Moreover, consider their personal circumstances – age, health, and existing commitments – to determine if they can realistically fulfill the role.
Notwithstanding these considerations, it’s important to remember that legal and financial expertise may be needed. In some cases, appointing a professional trustee, such as a bank or trust company, might be more appropriate, especially for complex estates.
I once had a client who initially selected their eldest son as executor. However, upon further reflection and discussion about the complexity of his estate, they realized that a corporate trustee would be better equipped to manage the assets effectively.
